5/3/2023 0 Comments Sidenotes imThis range of athlete profiles produced “base” bike splits on flatter courses spanning from five hours to seven hours in 15-minute increments. To achieve a wider range of athlete profiles, I adjusted the FTP both up and down, holding IF constant and modifying max FTP percentage slightly to maintain a TSS just below 300 for faster athlete profiles or to hit the target “base” time for slower athlete profiles. I used this athlete profile to run splits for all of the bike courses on the North American Ironman circuit, including a few discontinued venues. I specifically chose this first profile to arrive at a “base” bike split on flatter bike courses of about six hours and with a TSS just below 300. My Best Bike Split bike profile was quite accurate, thanks to their prior support and guidance, so I began with that profile, a roughly 2.6 W/kg FTP, a bike IF of 0.70, and a max FTP of 80% to arrive at my first athlete profile. Given that riding all the courses myself while holding variables like weather and fitness constant seemed like a monumental project, I turned to Best Bike Split to simulate these rides for me. Is the bike split differential for two Ironman bike courses the same for all athletes? Can an athlete’s relative bike split across two Ironman bike courses be predicted by the relative elevation gain of the course?Ģ. Over nearly a decade of coaching and long-course racing, I have anecdotally observed two things about bike courses on the North American Ironman circuit: (1) the relative speed of the course does not always correlate to its elevation gain, and (2) the time differential between two courses is not necessarily the same when comparing athletes of different speeds. 5/3/2023 0 Comments Pathfinder game![]() So, the game is pretty, the scope is vast, and there's plenty of leveling up and finding new gear and stuff, and it really seemed like there was enough potential here that I kept playing until finally I got to the last straw. I don't care that the advisor activities are sometimes low-percentage, or that there *is* a time limit. ![]() To be very clear: this isn't a complaint about difficulty. There's an alignment system where you're supposed to be able to choose good, evil, lawful, or chaotic options, but often these are assigned nonsensically, and it's usually a thin veil over "of course we're going to solve this the murder-hobo way no matter how this conversation goes". ![]() If you're forewarned, at least know that it is presented as an open world, but you're on a railroad nonetheless.Īnd, actually, that brings me to my final complaint. Even the "can't fail" mode doesn't actually prevent these from happening. I don't know why anyone thought that was a good idea. You get some message saying that you better hurry up on a particular plotline, so you go off to do it, and then midway though SURPRISE the timer goes off and you lose. Worst of all, though, are the stupid secret timers. It reforces the idea that the devs don't actually play tabletop Pathfinder, in order to create such a bad showdown This kind of mechanic no one should use in a game where casting is limited uses per day. A disrespect to the player, the removal of crucial pieces just because "its fun". And you are done for if you made your strategies around using those, like I did by losing two of three casters in my party. And just like that, you can't use some anymore. You pass through one of those old cliché "you must find your companions (because they conveniently got separeted) and you witness villain talking to them". This point is the sole responsible for the vast amount of negative reviews, and with reason.Īnd the ultime disrespect to the player: The game remove your companions near the end. And this is core gameplay, this kingdom management simulator is a crucial part of the game, and I can't imagine a dev making it worse than this one. With that you will have bad quests failing because you have to deal with other stuff. Your advirsors need a unreasonable amount of time, months and months to solve anything and, in meantime, more stuff pile on and can even fail tyour game, because of timers. Dozens of events, keeps poping while you try to explore or resolve other stuff in the game, random stuff happens and you lose events. The game completely change, and the feeling of a good rpg adventure is lost. You will spend a vast amount of time dealing with annoyances from everything around you with the most overcomplicated, boring and unecessary system imaginable. The Kindgom management system ruins the game. No d20 game should go as far as this, the late game is just a mesh of high numbers and hit-kill spells. You have to constantly reload to pass skill checks of 40+, you miss treasures, events and even locations in the map just because of the ridiculous high Challenge Difficulty skill checks. Creatures with Armor Class of 63, everything damages Str, Dex, Con or drains your levels. The late game, at level 15+ is absolute horrible. Whoever developed this, i'm sure never played Pathfinder before. ![]() Nobody likes rest, no one actually uses complex resting mechanics in the tabletop game. The insufferable Fatigue status is ALWAYS popping and forcing you to the arduous work of resting, that includes never used before rations, hunting and stuff that, again, just ruins the game further. 5/3/2023 0 Comments Avernum 6 world mapI agree that the gameplay in the series is very similar. Really, the nice thing about Spiderweb software is that each of the games comes with a free large demo which is more than enough to decide for yourself which one you enjoy the most. Narratively speaking, however, I feel the latter trilogy is weaker than the first, but that may be nostalgia. The events of Avernum 1 affect things in 2, and so on. The narratives flow together into one massive tapestry. In short: Trying to differentiate them between gameplay style would be impossible, as they all play the same between the differences of the two engines. Thrown Missiles simply won't be of much use to the melee type. Not a single stat is considered a "dump",but rather there are merely stats which do not pertain to your particular party build. There are also two remakes, of which use an even newer engine, with a third slowly in the works.Īs such, they all run on a very similar stat system. So you first have to consider: These are a series of games, made by one dude with a little help, The first trilogy of games uses one engine, while the latter trilogy uses the Geneforge engine. I want to make it very clear that you don't need to elaborate at all as this is part of the point of asking for three games instead of one, but you are free to do so if you really feel like it. If you thought that one game outshone all the others in pretty much every way, then put that as all three. If you thought one have had an amazing story but only marginally worse gameplay than the one you put for best gameplay than feel free to put it under the most "balanced" one. If you felt that the game with the best gameplay had an unforgivable story/incredibly poor writing or vice versa, then you can put different something here.ĭon't be afraid to put the same game in multiple categories as that's still helpful information for making my decision. I get that the games take place in the same setting, but that doesn't mean they all flesh it out to the same extent and that what's fleshed out could vary in quality.
